3. WELCOME ! It’s time to forecast and choose your classes for next year. Here are the steps you will follow…

4. Forecasting: Step by Step 1.Use Course Planning Guide 2.Discuss with parents, teachers, others 3.Fill in forecast sheet 4.Get signatures 5.Meet with counselor as needed 6.Turn in form to teacher by due date

5. Graduation Requirements Class of 2012 Language Arts 4.00 Social Studies 3.00 Math 3.00 Science 3.00 World Language 1.00 Physical Ed 1.00 Health 1.00 Fine Arts/Tech*2.00 Electives 7.00 Total Required: 25 *.50 credit must be earned in Technology. May include arts, World Language, or computer tech.

6. How many classes can I take? Freshmen and Sophomores = 7 classes Juniors = 6 classes minimum Seniors= 5 classes minimum

7. Remember: Honor Roll requires 6 graded classes. (Any class taken for Pass/No Pass credit will not count. Examples: Aide, Credit by Proficiency, etc.) Athletics requires passing 5 classes & being on track to graduate

8. Additional Requirements: See following screens for details Academic Portfolio Four Year Plan 2 CRLEs (Career Related Learning Experiences) Passing score on OAKS* for reading (*or equivalent test such as SAT) Don’t procrastinate!

9. Academic Portfolio Your portfolio is a collection of State test scores, CRLES, and work samples in: Math Writing Speaking Science

10. My Four Year Plan Each student is required to have a four year plan. Created in Bridges classes. Updated as needed with Counselor. Used to guide Forecasting.

11. Career Related Learning Experiences --- CRLEs CRLEs connect learning with the world beyond the classroom. Two CRLES required. Fill out CRLE forms. Bring completed forms to Ms. Cooke in the College & Career Center.

12. College Entrance Requirements Beyond GHS graduation requirements, Oregon universities require: Mathematics--3 credits (Algebra 2 or higher) World Language—2 credits in same language Additional Science is also highly recommended 16 academic credits in core subject areas “C” average for core courses

13. Additional College Requirements Grade point averages— 3.40 for U of O 3.00 for OSU, EOU, PSU and OIT 2.75 for WOU and SOU Universities also require ACT/SAT test scores. The tests now include a 30 minute writing section.

17. Extended Studies Students may earn a maximum of 1.0 credit through self-designed learning experiences beyond the classroom. For more information, see Mr. Lindblad.

18. International Baccalaureate(IB) Most advanced course of study in six different subject areas Choices: Earn full IB diploma Earn subject area certificates Take an individual class Note: Any student may take an IB class. If questions, see Pat Gray or your counselor

19. Be aware… There will be no level changes in IB courses. Students in IB courses are expected to remain in their chosen classes all year. Choose carefully.

22. Center for Advanced Learning--CAL CAL offers advanced courses in 5 technology-based fields: Digital Media (graphics & video) Programming & Networking Medical/Dental Engineering Manufacturing

23. Center for Advanced Learning--CAL Students apply and are accepted based on grades & interests. Students are at CAL every other day English is taken at CAL. Math, Social Studies & other electives are taken at GHS. For more info, see your counselor or Susan Fields.

24. A.C. E. Academy ACE stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering. Students apply and are accepted based on grades & interests. Students are at ACE every other day

25. Learning at A.C.E. Each student will experience hands-on projects in the “design and build industry.” Students can earn entry into advanced and apprenticeship training programs.

26. A.C.E. Each year a student can earn: 1.0 credit for English.50 credit each for math and science 2.0 elective credits in Career/Technical Additional credits are available. For more info, see your counselor or Susan Fields.

28. Forecast Process 1.Receive forecast sheet from teacher 2.Fill in personal information 3.Select required classes 4.Select electives 5.Get signatures as needed 6.Return to teacher by due date 7.Input classes online.

29. Expect Seven! Be prepared for a significant change in scheduling options. Due to budget cuts and fewer teachers, expect to take seven classes next year. There is a special place on the top right of the form which allows you to request an 8 th class, but expect seven.

32. Forecast Sheet – Front Side After you have completed the personal data section, mark choices with an “X” Choose required classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.) Seniors add Health (one semester) Get signatures of teachers as indicated. Include parent signature

33. Senior English : Step 1. Choose either IB/Honors English for the entire year OR choose 2 semesters of regular English. Step 2. If you choose IB/Honors, you need English teacher’s signature.

34. Math Choice of class requires teacher’s signature. If you fail either semester, you must discuss with teacher. You need a plan to catch up! Math Labs are offered in Algebra I and Geometry. Get extra help and earn credit!

36. Social Studies Choose either IB 20 th Century World History or Global Perspectives. Get teacher’s signature if you choose IB.

37. Forecasting Sheet – Page Two Electives Mark choices with an “X” Select a minimum of 3 alternates Mark with an “A” Get signatures if course has black diamond

38. Electives How many electives to take? 1.Decide total number of credits you want/need. 2.Count credits for required courses. 3.Make up the difference with electives.

39. Electives -- Example Student selects 7 credits. Required courses include English, Math, and Social Studies. This equals 3 credits. Student will take 4 credits of electives..

40. Alert! Talk with parents, teachers and counselor before choosing your classes. Choose very carefully. Schedule changes will be almost impossible. IB courses will not be changed.
