5 Mission Statement of AMATYC Ensure the preparation of mathematically and technologically literate citizens who are capable of making informed decisions, who have skills needed by business and industry, and who will continue to grow in their quantitative literacy; Lead the development and implementation of curricular, pedagogical, technological, and assessment standards for two-year college mathematics education;

6 Mission Statement of AMATYC Offer multiple opportunities for the preparation and continuing professional development of a competent and diverse mathematics faculty skilled in a variety of teaching modalities addressing different learning styles; Provide a forum that facilitates professional networking, communication, policy determination, and action among individuals, affiliates, and other professional organizations; and

8 History of AMATYC Established in 1974 Membership over last 5 years ranges from 1547 to 2289 8 regions: Northeast (4), Mid-Atlantic (6), Southeast (7), Midwest (6), Central (10), Southwest (4), Northwest (3), West (4) 44 total affiliates

20 Service to Members National and Regional Conferences – annual conference each fall; occasional regionals possibly throughout year Affiliate Organizations – usually by state; valued by AMATYC as independent organizations; some meet annually, others twice yearly; often meet in conjunction with other math affiliations Summer Institutes & Traveling Workshops – on various topics to meet needs
