Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 Mechanical assembly Mechanical parts are being produced PCB design finalized, Itzhak is at CERN negotiating production time. A backup option considered. Photocathode production and measurement SUNYSB to start weekly cycles of evaporating and measurements Testing GEM testing box is in work, needs to be equipped with LEMOs BNL makes preparations to measure CF 4 scintillation LEGS beam test is not happening soon (as planned) Electronics and monitoring status ADC unit works yet without real input and looks good (see a backup slide) Takao shown framework to monitor HBD performanceProgress:

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 Mechanical parts and PCB. PCB final design. Quick MC shows no difference with standard cells Entrance window frames are ready, the window itself to be tight between them

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 Gas monitoring system. Input and two outputs measured by moving mirror. More expensive but clearly better Input and two outputs measured by switching gas

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 SUNYSB starts evaporation cycles. Status: Evaporator – OK, as it was last time Laminar table – OK. Filters replaces, ready to go. Vacuum storage – almost OK, matter of days. Frames to hold GEMs are manufactured. Test box arrived needs connectors (~2 weeks) Glove Box new is still in the bidding stage, INFN may get some improvement for to be used for gearing up Gas system in assembly stage Strategy is to start weekly cycles of going from start to end getting more and more operations in routine from cycle to cycle. Use laminar table assembly Pump to water drop, as seen last time Evaporate and measure Q.E. in situ Get chicklets to Bob A. for Q.E. control Next cycle (reusing the same GEM for evaporation): Improve in situ Q.E. control add GEM triplet gain measurement

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 Back to prototype? With “unexpected” return of Run6 we need to make sure the full scale prototype can go in and work to have something better. 1R, Bertan (4100V), I~330 A1R, LeCroy (2400V), I~194 A 2R, Bertan (4100V), I~165 A2R, LeCroy (4100V), I~165 A Bob checked that the LeCroy power supply can be used. It requires divider resistance to be doubled. No extra noise detected.

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 PCB (Itzhak) Gas Monitoring System (Craig) Glove Box (SUNYSB) Signal Cables (BNL + Chi independently) Infrastructure preparation in the IR (Don+) Important standing Issues.

Sasha Milov DC meeting Jan 11, 2006 Mechanical assembly is on its way. Pad plane design is finalized SUNYSB is starting cycle to get up to a reliable routine operation. First look at the ADC modules is encouraging. More to come when a preamp board prototype is attached to it Glove Box is still waiting bids to come back. There are other items with long lead time and we are working on getting them out soon. Prototype needs to be in a good shape no matter what. It can operate on LeCroy PS, which is available. However the gas tightness might limit gas purity one can achieve with it. GEM testing box in in work. We might be able to measure GEM stacks in weeks from now. BNL will try to do a scintillation measurement.Summary:
