Introduction of the technology DEFINITION “A technique which enables three-dimensional Images to be made” Using a laser, interference, diffraction, light intensity recording and suitable illumination of the recording, the image changes as the position and orientation of the viewing system changes in exactly the same way as if the object were still present, thus making the image appear three- dimensional. 3D display is currently being applied to exhibitions and concerts, etc. However…. Limitations of current technology Needs a physical screen or reflector. FUTURE USES Gaming Realize the new concept of game in which users can interact with 3D holograms. Exhibitions Exhibit culture assets located in different regions at one exhibition room through 3D holograms. Video conference Improves the limitations of existing teleconferences. Communicate with 3D real-time holograms of others in a remote region. Feels like talking with a real person Education Enhances all visual aspects of education and makes it more accurate and closer to real life. Advertising 3D holograms allow viewers to feel more closer to the products and see it as if they were seeing it in real life. Concerts and performing art 3D holograms increase the excitement and enjoyment of any form of art. Manufacturing or commercial use Able to make a holographic prototype that allows you to see the insides of the product. Allows for benchmarking and testing to be conducted. Real-time holograms can cause data overload that will deteriorate the quality of the network, which may cause them to block internet usage of hologram products. Telecom companies do not want to pay network development costs. The equipment for holographic images is rather complex and expensive. Entertainment, exhibition, concerts, games, theme parks and other cultural and entertainment industries will be able to develop. Real time information solves problems related to location and time when it comes to things like conferences and exhibits. Accurate and more detailed images through holograms will allow customers to purchase things online in a more reliable manner. A variety of industries will be able to develop and create economical value. 3D holograms will allow for more sophisticated and extensive research to be conducted. Realistic images will allow for more realistic and effective education. Q3: The consequences of the technology in our society The drawbacks Illegal contents will be produced and it will be hard to control. Lack of privacy: everyone around you will be able to see the hologram. If it is too realistic, the problem with gaming addictions may rise. Decrease of personal interaction(face-to-face meetings, …) The benefits

Government support Regulation to prohibit immoral Uses of hologram technologies Hologram technology can be used in immoral uses such as commercialization of sex and improper military purposes May need laws or regulations to prevent this. An Official R&D Institution Needs a specialized organization to do research in this area. Need professionals who can fully understand holograms and can help to further develop them. Hologram technology is a complex and highly sophisticated that needs a great deal of research and financial investment Financial investment & incentives or government support on R&D Copyright infringement Needs a software or technology in order to block unlimited copying of products. A policy in regards to copyright infringement needs to be created so that developers and users will feel safe to keep creating content. Q4: The institutional mechanisms necessary for the technology

ENJOY. HATE I would enjoy being able to see the entirety of an object whenever I want to. I don’t have to meet the person or object in person to see what it looks like as a whole. More intimate connection with the object. Can view the object in real life size. I would be able to feel closer to whoever I am communicating with. Real time communication. Being able to see a person in 3D is a lot more realistic. Can see the insides of a product. Provides more information. Complicated concepts and studying materials are easier to understand. 3D holographic gaming would be very new and fun because the holograms will follow my movements. Able to view objects and artifacts from different locations all in one place. Lighting, space, people around me. It would feel a bit awkward because everyone around me would be able to see the hologram as well. Lack of privacy. Q5: How would you feel about using the technology? Isn’t very mobile. Can’t view while walking.

It will not be possible to make a portable holographic display like they showed in Star Wars. ○ A real-time, 360 degree angle holographic display without the need of a screen. 1. Create, capture, and restore holographic images. 2. Holographic image processesor. 3. Holographic image display/recorder. 1. (will always need a phsyical screen.) Multiple, miniature cameras. (Possible) Able to take multiple pictures of the object at high speeds. Higher and faster powered CPUs. (Possible) Able to process the pictures from the cameras in real time.
