 Use Arctic Sea Ice Data for construction of: ◦ Histogram ◦ Line Plot ◦ Box Plot (examine for outliers)

Describe the distribution

Does there appear to be a trend?

Are there any outliers?

 Create a scatter plot  Determine the LSRL  Examine r^2  Examine r  Examine residual plot

Is a linear model appropriate?

 Inference about the slope for association  Null: Β = 0 (no association between year and MSK’s of arctic ice)  Alternative: Β < 0 (The MSK’s of arctic ice is significantly decreasing over time)

 Students will be asked to research the causes of the reduction of arctic ice  Students will be asked to research the environmental impact of the reduction

 Global Warming, I mean Climate Change, will be the primary reason for the reduction.  Animal population of arctic wildlife such as polar bears, penguins, and seals will undoubtedly be listed as points of impact.

 Climate change will allow my class to explore average global temperature and CO 2 levels over time. CO 2 levels will allow us to explore data straightening techniques  Populations usually follow exponential models, which will allow us to further explore data straightening techniques

 Compare arctic sea ice levels with CO 2  Compare arctic sea ice levels to animal populations  Are problems a result of human fossil fuel consumption?
