Using a Project Model for Assessment of CDIO skills Tomas Svensson, Svante Gunnarsson Linköping University Sweden June 8 2005
2
CDIO SKILLS CDIO skills - Personal, interpersonal, and product and system building skills. 2.X Personal and professional skills and attributes 3.X Interpersonal skills: Teamwork and communication 4.X Conceiving, designing, implementing and operating systems in the enterprise and societal context. How do we assess the CDIO skills?
3
PROJECT MODEL Three main reasons for using a project model in engineering education: Tool for execution of projects Project work under industry like conditions A tool for assessment of various CDIO skills

DURING PHASE
8
ASSESSMENT IN THE DURING PHASE Results: 4.4.1 The design process 4.4.2 The design process phasing approaches 4.4.3 Utilization of knowledge in design 4.5.1 Designing the implementation process 4.5.3-4.5.4 Implementation in hardware and software. 4.5.5. Test, verification and validation Process: 3.1.2 Team operation 3.2.3 Written communication Assessment tools: Design and test specification Test protocol Time and status reports The technical result is checked against the requirement specification Technical documentation

AFTER PHASE
10
ASSESSMENT IN THE AFTER PHASE Process: 3.1.2 Team operation 3.1.3 Team growth and evolution 3.2.4 Electronic/Multimedia communication 3.2.6 Oral presentation Assessment tools: Time and status reports Presentation Project reflection

CONCLUSIONS The project model provides a structure for assessment of CDIO skills. The model enables continuous assessment. The model and assessment can be used at different levels of complexity.
