5 Instructions Words and phrases to collect Time connectives/ adverbials to order the steps: then, first, next, after that etc. Precise nouns and noun phrases Adjectives Imperative verbs Adverbs for precision Subject specific technical vocabulary Formal language

6 Instructions writing frame Opening – title or sentence setting out what is to be achieved Beginning – list of items required Middle – a sequence of steps to be carried out to achieve the goal. Describe clearly what to do, in time order. Each step should start with a number or time connective Ending – a final point, reminder, recommendation, word of warning or encouragement to the reader

7 Instructions key ingredients  Title states what instructions are for  List of requirements or equipment  All the steps are in chronological order  Time connectives or numbers are used to order the steps  Imperative verbs: push, place, take, stir  Adverbs / adverbial phrases to describe how to do each step  May end with a reminder, recommendation, warning or encouragement
