What is Science Olympiad (SCIOLY)? Science themed competitions between schools Grades K- 12 Regional, State, and National Competition Increasing interest in science by creating a technologically literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.

South Pointe Mission To give all students an opportunity to develop an interest, be engaged, explore, and learn different aspects of science outside the classroom. To develop a team from these students that will compete against other schools. What are we looking for? Self- motivated Dedicated Energetic Fast learners Good test takers SCIENCE LOVERS!!!!!

Important dates for you to know Student Informational Meeting- Thursday, August 27 from 2:30-3:00 pm in the PLTW room (D224) Applications due Sept. 11, no donation Testing- Tues-Thurs., Sept. 29-Oct.1 from 2:30- 3:30 Doesn’t determine for sure who will compete There will be a Team A and B, Donation- $35 We will meet Thursdays and some Tuesdays from 2:20- 3:20

Application due Friday, Sept. 11 For a better understanding of events, either google it or look it up on www.soinc.org 5 events TOTAL listed in order from 1- most want to do to 5- ok * Look at the maximum for each column Both student and parent must sign the form Turn into Mrs. Dira (A143) or Ms. Muragishi (D105) no later than Friday, Sept. 11

Testing Be familiar for the first round of testing with the events We will be having meetings until testing to help talk about the events and how to prepare.

Competitions LA county Regionals- February 27, 2016 Southern CA state- Tentatively Late March or Early April at Canyon High School in Anaheim (around Spring Break) Nationals- Universtity of Wisconsin, Stout - May 20-21, 2016, Menomonie, WisconsinUniverstity of Wisconsin, Stout Team members MUST BE AVAILABLE these days

What Does This Mean For South Pointe Students? Take a look at the events and fill out an application – due Friday, Sept. 11 DO NOT TURN IN FEES ONLY APPLICATIONS We will meet Thursdays and some Tuesdays We will have another set of testing to determine the competing team We will comprise a team of at least 15 members that will go to competitions- Team members that compete will be announced later on in the year
