EU-funded Project “Implementation of Ukraine’s Commitments under WTO and ENP Frameworks in the Rural Sector (Sector-Wide Approach)” Improving Animal Slaughter in Ukraine Implementing modern and up to date dairy and meat production and marketing standards either in line with European Union regulations or best international practice Encouraging gradual increases in herd size and competitive production with a particular focus on holdings of between 5-15 cattle Providing particular targeted support to setting up new livestock production units, raising/purchase of young cattle, encouraging fattening technologies, purchasing of pedigree breeds and promoting producer marketing organisations Stimulating the breeding industry by encouraging greater competition amongst breeders, promoting productive livestock breeds and eliminating barriers to imports of genetic materials and pedigree livestock Encouraging programmes which differentiate meat and milk prices for different defined qualities and to strengthen processor/farmer market chain linkages and cooperation Improving certification systems based on EU and international standards for meat and dairy products and tightening hygiene controls and with a single supervisory authority

EU-funded Project “Implementation of Ukraine’s Commitments under WTO and ENP Frameworks in the Rural Sector (Sector-Wide Approach)” Developing improved, certified and up-to-date slaughterhouses (including small design scale) according to EU standards Considering possibilities for improving/developing livestock assembly markets and legalising cattle collector status Streamlining approval mechanisms for land allocation for commercial livestock farm development purposes and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy Considering support for adding value investment (such as milking, cooling, storage, collection etc.) Further investigating and disseminating information on feeding programmes and improved pastures (including in mountainous areas) Compensating cattle identification activities and veterinary services or encouraging greater competition amongst veterinary service providers Improving training and advisory services focusing on practical/up to date livestock production and marketing technologies Initiating public awareness programmes jointly financed by the public and private sector to stimulate domestic beef (and other meat) consumption Identifying, researching, summarising and effectively disseminating information on priority and targeted export markets and buyers Improving Animal Slaughter in Ukraine
