1 CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT St. Luke’s University Hospital Southside Medical Center

2 WHO WE ARE  Located in Bethlehem, PA  Part C clinic  Team: Medical Assistant RN, program coord Nurse Practitioner ID doctor

3 OUR POPULATION Approximately 173 clients 41 new clients in 2012 51% male, 49% female 45% Hispanic 64% living at or below FPL

4 PROJECT We chose this project because less than 25% of our female patients had received their yearly cervical cancer screening (PAP) in early summer 2012. Goal: reach 50% completion rate by summer 2013.

5 METHODS AND TESTS  To kick off our improvement effort we dedicated a week to women’s health  The first “Women’s Health Blitz Week” took place from September 17 th -22 nd 2012  This week was designed to be a “one stop shop” for our female patients to have all of their yearly screenings addressed in one visit  Each client received a goodie bag with condoms, pamphlets, and toiletries

7 THE RESULTS 50% of scheduled women showed up during the blitz week The remaining 50% were either no shows or called and canceled 10 women were connected to care to have mammograms, 2 to colonoscopy, and 1 to DEXA Blitz week repeated in March 2013

8 LESSONS LEARNED  Improvements made for March Blitz Week Reduced Blitz Week from 5 days to 3 days Accommodated clients’ availability better when scheduling appointments Utilized case managers to make reminder calls

9 END OF YEAR OUTCOME Blitz Week
