6 Partnership Model Stage 1: Getting Started – Reasons for initiating a partnership Resources, motivation, existing relationships Voluntarily or mandate Stage 2: Partnership Development – Process of collaborating beyond self-interest Identify different intentions and aligning them Stage 3: Incorporating the Partnerships – Creation of “partnership capital” Through shared norms, beliefs, and networking (Amey et al., 2010, Community College Review

7 UAB Joint Admission Partnership Stage 1: UAB Initiated – 1 Year Out: UAB recognized increasing number of students at community college – Approached enrollment management counterparts at community colleges – Met with each college individually to discuss feasibility of joint admission – Outlined a plan to implement

8 UAB Joint Admission Partnership Stage 2: Collaboration – 6 Mths Out: Initial meeting of UAB with all 4 community college partners – Shared what each partner wanted to achieve or gain from the partnership – Discussed possible obstacles—politically and functionally – Agreed to confirm with college leadership and determine whether or not to move forward

9 UAB Joint Admission Partnership Stage 3: In Progress – 3 Mths Out: Confirmed participation and developed MOUs – Established student eligibility criteria and terms of agreement – Invited students to participated and awaited response – Hired 2 Joint Admission Counselors

10 UAB Joint Admission Participation in the program: – Stay continuously enrolled at one of our 4 partner community college Jeff State, Lawson State, Gadsden State, & Wallace State-Hanceville – Meet regularly with assigned community college academic advisor & UAB Joint Admission Counselor – AL residents, U.S. citizens (deferred action) – Maintain 2.0 GPA and full-time status

11 Automatic Admission to UAB How to be auto-admitted to UAB: – Earn a non-technical Associate’s degree – Earn an Associate’s Degree in Nursing – Send academic transcript(s) listing graduation date, degree, & final cumulative GPA to UAB immediately – Minimum GPA of 2.0

12 Joint Admission Scholarship How to earn the $2,000 scholarship: – Earn a non-technical Associate’s degree/ADN with a 3.0 GPA or higher – Send academic transcript(s) listing your graduation date, degree, & final cumulative GPA to UAB immediately – Be continuously enrolled at a partner community college for a minimum of one year

14 Joint Admission Summer/Fall 2013 90 initially joined the program: 1.Jeff State = 41 2.Lawson State = 34 3.Gadsden State = 4 4.Wallace State-Hanceville = 4 Welcome event in July 2013 90 Joint Admission students were invited, 60 registered, and 53 attended and brought guests—served approx. 100
