6 OBJECTIVES  STUDENTS WILL LEARN HOW TO COUNT RHYTHMS  STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND THE FUNCTION OF A TIME SIGNATURE  STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO NAME NOTES AND THEIR FUNCTION 1

7 Time Signature Time Signature - HOW MANY BEATS ARE IN THE MEASURE - WHAT TYPE OF NOTE RECEIVES 1 COUNT Dictates how many and what type of notation is placed in a measure. 2

9 Rhythm Tree Rhythm Tree -the break down of note length using ½ the value of the previous note - 4

10 Whole Note receives 4 counts Whole Note receives 4 counts 1(2,3,4) Numbers in the parenthesis are silent during the counting process. 5

11 Half Notes receives 2 counts each note Half Notes receives 2 counts each note 1 (2) 3 (4) Once again, numbers in the parenthesis are silent during the counting process. 6

12 Quarter Notes receives 1 count per note Quarter Notes receives 1 count per note 1, 2,3,4 Quarter notes are counted in sequential order at a steady pulse beginning with count 1. 7

13 Eighth Notes Eighth Notes 1 &2&3&4& receives ½ a count each note Eighth notes are counted by placing and (&) in between the numbers. Each notated note value is half the length of each numbered pulse. 8
