Outline of Work Research Commenced May 1, 2010 Research Personnel (to date): – Dr. Tomas Yebra Vega (Post-Doctoral Fellow) – Mr. Mayassam Amiri (M.Sc. Scholar) Research Projects/Activities: – Modelling of Distributed Loads in a Microgrid on EMT programs Incorporation of electric/hybrid Vehicle charging (statistical aspect) – Modelling of Stability Issues in Microgrid resulting from distributed generation/loads – Towards Development of microgrid benchmarks models
3
Modelling of Distributed Loads in a Microgrid on EMT Programs (I) Objectives of the activity: – New stochastic model of electric vehicle. – New algorithm for charger that has a lower impact in the distribution network. Battery model
4
Modelling of Distributed Loads in a Microgrid on EMT Programs (II) Objectives of the activity: – New index (indices) for evaluating the impact of electric vehicle in the network, penalizing overloading of feeders and poor power quality. – Impact of different charging regimes - grid to car only or bidirectional - car to grid and grid to car Proposed Impact of this modelling: – operation of microgrid to improve its performance (collaboration with Theme 1). – Development of protection system to reduce the number failures in power devices and loads. Generation of stochastic values (collaboration with Themes 1 and 3).
5
Modelling of Stability Issues in Microgrids Objectives of the activity. – New stochastic models of DGs for transient stability studies. – New stochastic models of distribution networks for transient stability studies. – New indices for evaluation and comparison of transient stability studies.
6
Modelling of Stability Issues in Microgrids (I) Objectives of the activity. – Study of Optimum penetration level of DGs for transient stability. – Analyses of transient stability in AC and DC distribution systems. Part of canvas of IEEE 13 Node distribution network test feeder in PSCAD
