What is the User Interface?
The user interface (or Human Computer Interface) is the aggregate of means by which people (the users) interact with the system (a particular machine), device, computer program or other complex tools.

The user interface provides:
Input which allows the users’ to manipulate a system Output which allows the system to produce the effects of the users' manipulation.

Command driven The command driven interface requires the user to type commands using keywords that tells the operating system what to do e.g. format or copy. Give an example of a software that is command driven?

Menu driven interface Term used to describe a software program that is operated using file menus (menu.htm) instead of using commands. Menu driven interface allows the user the freedom of manipulating the system without having to memorise the different commands.

Menu-driven interface is commonly easier for most users as it is a graphical environment and allows the user to navigate using the mouse. Give an example of a software that uses menu-driven interface?

Pull Down Menu Also called a drop-down menu that appears when you select an item with a mouse. The item you select is generally at the top of the display screen, and the menu appears just below it, as if you had pulled it down.

Pop-up Menu A group of options or selections offered to a user that appears as a result of pressing a special function key, clicking a button with the mouse. Pop-up menus are used to display a list of articles for each section of a site that can help your Web visitors by saving them time and effort in their search for useful information.

What is an icon? An icon is a graphic image, a small picture or object that represents a file, program, web page, or command. Icons help you execute commands, open programs or documents quickly. To execute a command by using an icon, click or double-click on the icon. Give an example of an icon

Touch Screen A touch screen is a display which can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The term generally refers to touch or contact to the display of the device by a finger or hand.
