6 … a best practice: The PSA - Voltri Terminal Europa (VTE) success story: The joint effort of VideoApp, Selea and DMT (Savona) integrated a unique industrial process automation project, based on leading Optical Characters Reading (OCR) technology from Selea, recognizing the identification codes on naval containers, and the car plate numbers of the trucks: Goal was to automate the ingress and egress process to the terminal. Previous handling was completely “manual” and executed by ramp operators. Among the goals reached by DMT (the engineering and process automation integration company) are: - Over 93% of automated process handlings on more than 2000 trucks per day (over 2 Million TEU per year) - Deploy a non invasive automation application that could fit in the existing process environment that does not tolerate any interruption. The automated process emulates the human operator. - Give to the customer full flexibility with an automation system built from scratch exactly on their needs. - Offer the maximum of safety of the operations: every exception has to be handled by a human operator
