Editing and Revising NeSA-W
2
Why is it important to edit/revise? Think Pair Share
3
Would you play an untuned instrument for an audience?
4
Editing vs. Revising Both serve to help the reader read along more smoothly Both improve the quality of writing
5
Editing Changing letters to CAPITAL or lowercase (especially the word “I” and the first letter of a sentence) Correcting misspelled words Adding, deleting, or changing punctuation , ? !. Indenting paragraphs
6
Revising Adding, changing, or deleting parts of the piece to help the writing flow Turning worn out words into vivid words (cold to HOT) Coming up with an interesting lead that hooks the reader and a conclusion that sums things up Adding specific details, descriptions, and explanations Organizing ideas in an order that makes sense
7
Revision Strategies Look for Unity Does everything refer back to main point? Does each topic sentence refer to the thesis? Does each sentence in each body paragraph refer back to the topic sentence? Detail and support Does each body paragraph contain at least two examples? Is each example followed by at least one supporting detail? Coherence Are all points connect to form a whole? Are transitions used to move from one idea to the next?
