3 Luxembourg, 28/6/2011 DC-NET ERA-NET A Network for the European Research Area Focus: Digital Cultural Heritage and e-Infrastructures Targets: national-regional digitisation initiatives and Europeana Actions: To establish a dialogue between cultural heritage and e- Infrastructures communities in Europe, To identify a list of priority services which can benefit of e- infrastructures facilities To enlarge the network to the rest of EU Member States To agree a plan of joint activities among digital cultural programmes owners and e-Infrastructures Started in December 2009, it will last for another year. A project funded by EC FP7 e-Infrastructures 3

6 Luxembourg, 28/6/2011 The European scenario: JPI Joint programming initiative on Cultural Heritage chaired by Italy: "Cultural Heritage and Global Change: a new challenge for Europe - EC Recommendation 26/4/2010 The approach: to involve Member States, engaging on a variable-geometry basis, in: – defining, – developing and – implementing strategic research agendas JPI endorsed DC-NET

7 Luxembourg, 28/6/2011 Our vision –To investigate the possibility of an infrastructure for the research in the digital cultural heritage –To further develop the national/regional frameworks of cooperation with content providers –To establish a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Culture and the e- Infrastructure providers (National Research and Educational Networks-NREN, National Grid Initiatives- NGI)

9 Luxembourg, 28/6/2011 Europeana Europeana could benefit of such digital cultural heritage e-infrastructure It will be possible to define together added value services The training and awareness initiatives planned by DC- NET will be useful to understand better what the e- infrastructures can offer to the cultural institutions and to Europeana

10 Luxembourg, 28/6/2011 Join the DC-NET Community For Ministries, and national-regional Agencies (programme owners) The instrument: Membership Agreement Scope: to enforse common strategies and to influence national policies For cultural institutions and research centres The instrument: Cooperation Agreement Scope: to participate to the working groups, to agree on common recommendations, to contribute to future implementations For projects and e-infrastructure providers The instrument: Memorandum of Understanding Scope: to define cooperation and joint projects
