Berlin is the capital of Germany. It has a population of 3.5 million people. It is a city very full of history.

Brandenburger Tor – One of the original city gates of Berlin. Rebuilt in the 18 th century into a triumphal arch. Restored in 2000. Now a major landmark for Berlin and Germany. KaDeWe – Kaufhaus Des Westens. A supermall built in the days when there was an East and West Germany. Has one of the largest selections of items in Europe.

Galerie des Ostens– An international memorial of freedom. A 1.3km long segment of the Berlin Wall that has hundreds of paintings by well- known artists on the former East side. Checkpoint Charlie – The most well-known crossing point of the Berlin Wall during the Cold War. There is now a museum next to the old checkpoint.

Potsdamer Platz – Home of the first traffic light in Europe. Now a central plaza, home of many different stores and cultural interests. Fernsehturm – The tallest structure in Germany and the fourth tallest in Europe. Built as a giant antenna and to show the East who’s boss. Ku-damm – Kurfürstendamm – One of the most famous avenues in Berlin. Stretches for 3.5km.

Houses 147 foreign embassies. Continental hub for airports and railways. Berlin has a yearly total of 135 million day visitors, making it the third most popular city in Europe.
