3 What does Economic mean? The Economy is the way that Canadians earn money. We have a good economy, and we are one of the richest countries in the world. 10 Tertiary Industry Tertiary means THIRD, so tertiary industry happens after Primary (first) and Secondary (second) Tertiary means THIRD, so tertiary industry happens after Primary (first) and Secondary (second) Tertiary Industry is about providing services to people and businesses so that everyone can have a better quality of life Tertiary Industry is about providing services to people and businesses so that everyone can have a better quality of life Doing things for other people or selling things are kinds of SERVICES. 11 Tertiary Industry Example: When people buy a car (made by the automotive industry) they need SERVICES (people to do things for them) like insurance, fuel, and garages to fix their car if it breaks. 14 Industrial Heartland There are 4 reasons why manufacturing happens in this area… There are 4 reasons why manufacturing happens in this area… 1) Locations of Markets: Things are made near to where they can be used or sold. In this part of Canada, we can sell things to the USA and most of the population of Canada. 2) Access to Natural Resources: Most of what we need to make things comes from Ontario and Quebec 3) Labour Supply: Ontario and Quebec have lots of people who have the training needed to make things 4) Transportation: Once things are made, they can be easily moved by boat through the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, by planes through airports, and by trucks and trains on the ground.
