Newfoundland celebrating Since the 1940’s the people of Newfoundland and Labrador celebrated June 24 th as Discover y day Prior to that, the Day has been celebrated by many as Mid Summer's Day. The original claim to Discovery Day was to mark the June 24th, 1497 discovery and naming of "Newfound Land" by John Cabot (Giovanni Coboto ).

What sets Newfoundland from other provinces Many things set Newfoundland and Labrador apart from other provinces. Water of course divides Newfoundland its self from the rest of the country. History is another thing that set this province apart from the others because for so long a separate political entity there is many more things that separate Newfoundland from the rest of the province.
