In FP6 - IST WP2003: Research networking testbeds To integrate and validate, in the context of user-driven large-scale testbeds, the state-of-the-art technology that is essential for preparing the future upgrades in the infrastructure deployed across Europe. Research Networking testbeds in FP6

Examples: 2 large IPv6 testbeds (34 M total, 18 M EC contribution) addressing wide-scale deployment of native IPv6 within commercial and academic environments + complementary set of smaller IPv6 testbeds Testbed of photonic terabit routers 1 large Grid testbed (13 M total, 9 M EC contribution) addressing scientific and commercial-type applications ranging from high-energy physics to industrial simulation + complementary set of smaller Grid testbeds Research Networking testbeds in FP5

Integrating, testing, validating and demonstrating new networking technologies - including disruptive technologies - and services (IP over photonics, GMPLS, wireless access, network security and privacy, new routing and protocol schemes, etc. ) in real-world settings and production environments Roadmaps and strategic guidance from IST community for infrastructure development Fostering interoperability across different scientific and industrial disciplines to achieve broader-scale up-take of new state-of-the-art infrastructure technology and promoting the creation of standards WorkProgramme 2003

The work of the Strategic Objective Research Networking Testbeds is in support of the activities carried out in the area of Research Infrastructures on high-capacity and high- speed communications network for all researchers in Europe (GEANT) and specific high-performance Grids. Links with Research Infrastructures

Addressed in 2 nd Call (Jun - Oct 2003) IPs, NoEs, STREPs, SSAs, CAs Projects to start mid 2004 Approx. 25 MEuro funding available in this Call (50 MEuro in total for Research Networking Testbeds in IST) Follow the good experience in FP5: Multidisciplinary consortium with many actors from different sectors involved Prepare the introduction of new technologies into the eInfrastructures of the future Call 2 IST – RN Testbed objective
