INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT EVENTS What is the difference between independent and dependent probabilities?
2
INDEPENDENT PROBABILITY Independent probability events are when you replace an object so it doesn’t effect the next experiment. 2 different events that don’t effect each other. Ex: Spinning a spinner and landing on yellow with 4 quarters and flipping a cup and landing on the open end.
3
DEPENDENT PROBABILITY Dependent probability events is when you don’t replace an object so it does effect the next experiment. When 2 different events don’t rely on each other. Ex: Sandra has 7 lilies, 3 roses, 12 tulips, and 4 daises. If she picked 8 flowers at random to clip, what is the probability that she would pick 3 lilies, 1 rose, and 4 tulips?
4
THE DIFFERENCE o The difference of dependent and independent is when you replace an object it is independent. o When you don’t replace an object is when it is dependent.
