10 ESTEP and the EIB: what about future projects ? EIB is already familiar with large steel projects (Automotive programmes, environment…) EIB participates in Working groups and in the 3 ESTEP committees EIB participation is envisaged for the second and third phases (pilot & demonstration, industrialisation of the ULCOS project ?)

12 ESTEP: proposal for a JTI ESTEP is focussed on European objectives: the Green House Gas and Energy issues A consortium already existing in the framework of ULCOS A long term industrial R&D programme An important financial commitment of the steel industry A need for a critical mass of resources (European, national and regional) High investment costs
