Know Your Roots! The Smith-Hughes National Vocational Education Act established Vocational courses in 1925. Vocational means “Employment; trade; profession; business”

Sowing the Seeds of Success 1928 – The National organization of the Future Farmers of America was formed. Dues were 10 cents per member per year! Leslie Applegate from New Jersey was the FIRST president.

National Convention – Old School! First National Convention was in 1928. Held in Kansas City, MO. 33 delegates from 18 states!

National Convention – New School! National Convention will be in Indianapolis! CHSAS students attend every year! National Convention will be held 10/20-23, 2010

New Farmers of America Created by a group of African-American men and boys to ensure that Agricultural Education would be better promoted in diverse schools George Washington Owens, Advisor Over 58,000 members! NFA provided a rich, distinguished line of leadership, vision, and opportunity not just for Blacks, but for all races.

Leadership (It’s baaaaack!) 1937 – National FFA Camp and Leadership Training School is established in Washington, D.C. 212° Conference - the temperature at which water boils - will focus on taking students to the boiling point of leadership. 360° will take students full circle in chapter leadership development. The conference will cover every angle for developing action plans for their chapters.

Progressive Events! 1965 – 58,000 members of the NFA merge with the Future Farmers of America. 1969 – Women were permitted to join 1971 – National FFA Alumni Association was formed. 1988 – Name changed to National FFA Organization.

National FFA Stuff! Official Magazine is called “New Horizons” Headquarters is in Alexandria, VA. (part of George Washington’s estate) National FFA Week is in February!
