1 Learning about longitude and latitude By the time you are finished with this power point you should know the difference between longitude and latitude and be able to locate different landmarks using longitude and latitude.

2 What is longitude and latitude? Longitude and Latitude are invisible lines on the Earth’s surface to help navigate and map out different locations. These lines help people find places in the world. Click on the earth to see what longitude and latitude lines look like.

3 Let’s take a closer look…. These top lines that go from North to south are called longitude lines. These side lines that go from east to west are called latitude lines. Click on the arrows to learn more! (Click here for more) here

4 Let’s look even closer…. Notice that each line is measured in degrees. If you look at the line on top that is 100 degrees and follow it down to the line that is 40 degrees across what state are you in? UTAH

5 Longitudinal lines of the Earth The main longitude line is located at 0 degrees. It is called the Prime Meridian.

6 Latitudinal Lines of the Earth The main latitude line is located at zero degrees and it is called the Equator.

7 Let’s try again… If you were to follow the longitude line of 110 degrees to the latitude line of 30 degrees where would you be? Click here to find out Mexico

8 One more time… let’s go world wide! Where would you find yourself if you followed the longitude line of 30 degrees to the latitude line of 0 degrees? Click here to find out AFRICA!

9 It’s your final test! Starting with question number and click on the right places of the map. (the circles are where you should click) 1. Which line is the Prime Meridian? 2. Which line is the Equator? This is the Equator!! This is the Prime Meridian!!
