8 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Serious Incidents /Fatality /Serious injury such as: limb amputated, life support system, unconscious, trapped in machinery or in a confined space, serious burns /Immediate threat to life such as major damage to machinery or buildings or the collapse of an excavation /TAFE Institute report within 2 hours by email to SI Manager, Institute Executive Services Non-disturbance /The area immediately around the incident must not be disturbed, except to assist an injured person

9 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Workers Compensation Provisional Liability Weekly payments can be made without admitting liability for the claim Reasonable Excuse The insurer can only refuse to commence provisional weekly compensation payments, where it has one of the reasonable excuses prescribed by WorkCover Acceptance or Decline of claim Only the insurer can determine liability for a workers compensation claim

10 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Return-to-work The definition of “Suitable duties” is Employment in work for which the worker is suited, having regard to the following: /The nature of the worker’s incapacity and pre-injury employment /The worker’s age, education, skills and work experience /The details of any physical restrictions given on the medical certificate supplied by the treating doctor /Suitable duties must be productive and meaningful (not token), and not demeaning to the worker.
