2 What is geography? Geography is the study of the Earth, including its surface and the people who live on it. The word geography comes from the Greek word geographia, which means “description of the Earth”. The prefix geo- means “Earth”

8 Most of the world (about 70%) is covered by water
Most of the world (about 70%) is covered by water. The largest bodies of salt water are called oceans. There are 5 major oceans in the world.

10 Continents The rest of the world (about 30%) is covered by land. The seven largest landmasses are called continents. Africa Antarctica Asia Australia Europe North America South America

11 Continents Each continent is further divided into separate countries, and each country has its own states and cities. Example: North America (Continent) United States (Country) Louisiana (State) Baton Rouge (City)

17 Australia Australia is the smallest continent and also its own country. The only country in Australia is…Australia!

18 Antarctica There are no countries in Antarctica! Why? Because it has zero permanent human residents. 98% of Antarctica is covered in ice.

ZEBRAS live in Africa LIONS and ELEPHANTS, too. Australia is down under, Home of the KANGAROO! Clap your hands for Asia! It's the largest one. Antarctica is covered in ice. The PENGUINS sure have fun! North America is where I live. It's where I work and play. In Europe you'll find England, Where the queen rules every day. South America is home to Brazil. It's the largest country there. The world has seven continents, And I've just named them with care!

20 The Seven Continents North America, South America, holding hands in the west Europe and Asia, side by side, and on Africa they rest Australia stands alone, floating down below And Antarctica is the loneliest, where only penguins want to go!
