Robbinsville High School AP Music Theory Mr. Westawski

Course Goals To learn basic musical language and grammar including note reading, musical notation, harmonic analysis, and part writing which will lead to a thorough understanding of music composition and music theory. To obtain and practice ear training skills and skills required for sight reading musical literature. To recognize the development of music from a historical and cultural perspective and extend musical awareness beyond music currently familiar to the student. To prepare for the AP Music Theory Exam taken upon completion of the course.

Teaching Strategies/Student Activities Classroom discussions and demonstrations Extensive part writing and composition exercises Workbook examples, chapter questions and terms Solfege theory of sight-singing One chapter each week!!! Evaluation Methods Completion of guided examples Homework- workbook Projects Quizzes and tests Performance Lots of practice!!!!

Grading Policy Point-based system- each task, assessment, project, or goal is assigned a point value. Participation25/30 Project65/70 Quiz18/20 Homework20/20 To determine student’s grade, add the student’s scores together and divide by the total possible points 176/190 =.926 = 93%
