9  Geography is the study of the earth’s physical and cultural features.  The two types of Geography are: 1. Physical geography 2. Cultural (human) geography

11  Geography is the study of the Earth, both its physical and cultural features. › Physical features – Natural features on the Earth’s surface such as landmasses, mountains, oceans, rivers, beaches, natural resources, animals, and plants. › Culture – Culture is what makes different groups of people unique. Culture includes such things as traditions and beliefs, art, clothes, food, language, religion, music, architecture, etc. Culture varies from group to group.

13  In some Asian countries like Japan, it is polite to burp after a meal.  In some tribes in Africa, women give birth while standing up.  If you give someone a thumbs up in Greece, they take it as an insult.  In some parts of India, widows practice Sati. When her husband dies, they burn his body and she jumps in with him.

16  The environment you live in contributes to your culture. › People make use of the resources that are available in their region.  Example – If you live by the sea, you will eat more fish than someone who lives away from the water. › People adapt, or adjust, to the environment they live in.  Example – If you live in the frozen tundra of Siberia, you would have to wear a heavy jacket and other warm clothes to go outside. If you moved to the hot and dry desert, you would have to buy new clothes!

17  People also adapt to the times they live in, so the culture of a group of people may change over time. › New ideas, inventions, and technology can change the way people view the world or change the way people live their lives.

It includes art, traditions, beliefs, food, language, clothing, religion, games, and many other elements.  Make a mini-poster that shows elements of YOUR culture! It should include pictures or words and be neat and colorful. This will be graded!
