Year 6 Learning Hub Sage- Sorrel- Cubby Hole- Sunshine Room- Cyber space The learning hub has been a key aspect of Year 6 at Trinity School for several years now in order to ease transition in to secondary school. It has been an incredibly successful model and has improved standards in Year 6. “My child has progressed and grown in this last year and we are so pleased with how well the Year 6 hub worked together – thank you.”

Verbal Notes for Slide 3: All children will be taught by each member of the Year 6 Team (rotational basis). Want to reiterate that they are not taught as one large group of 48. Groups 1:12 ratio with adult every lesson that change regularly – allows a personalised learning programme. Great transition for secondary school – used to moving locations, responsible for own learning/resources, working with different adults.

Day to day Reading – independent/guided/shared Writing – independent/guided Maths – times tables/4 operations/KIRFs/4 operations Morning activities – spelling/tables/writing Topic – Evolution: what will we become? The rest of the curriculum (RE, ICT & Art) – PPA team: Mrs Heber, Mrs Collins and Miss Woodward.

Verbal Notes for Slide 5: Guided reading (once per week, carousel including the actual reading session with a teacher, written comprehension, spelling and writing challenges). Children read with an adult once per week. It is important to still share books/read with your child. Writing – guided writing in groups with an adult working on specific targets. Maths – each child gets personalised learning in their groups. We are focusing on basics/place value/4 operations until Christmas. At home, times tables are very important. Morning activities – extra time to work on key areas that need improvement, school on time so as not to miss out on this learning opportunity. PPA team – Mrs Heber = RE Miss Woodward = ICT Mrs Collins = Art New Curriculum 2014, new topics- raised standards.

General information Share book – purple pages Pencil cases – trying to find right pen for them (black) Home Learning Reading/spelling journals – update. Please sign when child has read. Deadline for Secondary School application to North Somerset is 31 st October Swimming – Thursday 7 th January – February 4 th (walkers please) Topic trip/Camp/Life Skills/Drugs education/SRE Year 5/6 production - 30.6.15 @ 2pm and @ 6pm Oasis- Walking home- permission letters. Mobile phones will be locked away in teacher’s cupboards. Please read school newsletters.

Verbal Notes for Slide 7: Please sign purple pages. Aim to have all children writing in pen – must be black. Home Learning– Weekly home learning will be set on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday – there will be one English based task and one maths based task, it is expected that you will regularly read with your child, personalised spelling books will also be coming home on a daily basis, please help your child to learn their spellings (also on website under CLL). Home Learning reward- 5 stars = 1 green card. Maths games- children will choose a game to take home every other week. KIRFs- Key Instant Recall Facts (see website). Calculation policy- can use this to support children with methods (see website). SATs, camp and SRE meetings will be held later on in the year.

Year 6 residential- Hill House Bridgewater. There will be a meeting nearer the time. SRE- taught in Term 5. There will be a meeting a couple of weeks before it is taught.
