On April 10, 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail from Southampton on her maiden voyage to New York. At that time, it was the largest and most luxurious ship ever built. At 11:40 PM on April 14, 1912, it struck an iceberg about 400 miles off Newfoundland, Canada.

DESIGN OF TITANIC The great ship, at that time the largest and most luxurious afloat, was designed and built by William Pirrie's Belfast firm Harland and Wolff to service the highly competitive Atlantic Ferry route

DESIGN OF TITANIC It offered an onboard swimming pool, gymnasium, a Turkish bath, library and squash court. First-class common rooms were ornately decorated with elaborate wood paneling, expensive furniture and other elegant decorations. In addition, Café Parisienne offered superb cuisine for the first-class passengers with a delightful sunlit veranda fitted with trellis decorations.
