4 stages of the disease Infection: When HIV is introduced in the body. Asymptomatic: A person is infected but is not ill. HIV is actively infecting and killing cells of the immune system. Symptomatic: A change in the normal body functions. Start of white blood cell deterioration. AIDS: Very few white blood cells left, One or more serious illnesses start.
