Confident Place, Confident People. What’s the problem? Survey with Homeless Link winter 2009-2010: 42% homeless people admitted to hospital in preceding 6 months; average stay 7.2 days. Only 27% has been offered housing help while in hospital 56% reported long term health problems 72% had mental health problems

Homeless man released from hospital in pyjamas 12 th January 2010 “The nurses tried their best to find me some clothes but all they could find was this pair of pyjama bottoms and some slip-on shoes, but no socks, said Harry Dixon, who was given a taxi fare to the nearest homeless day centre – which was closed” Man ‘banned from using the NHS 3 rd June 2010 “Christopher Dearlove, 41, used more than 70 aliases to trick NHS staff into admitting him to hospital. Staff in Glasgow, Cambridge, south London, Rochdale and Grimsby were among those he tricked, to get accommodation and food.”

Referrals make a difference Peter was admitted to RAEI with abdominal pain due to liver disease Declined offers of treatment for alcohol abuse & supported accommodation Registered for housing & agreed to stay in touch Mediation enabled a temporary move back to his grandparents Peter now has a Council tenancy and has significantly reduced his drinking.
