Results and Discussion Here is a list of activities to complete that will produce a results and discussion chapter. 1.Answer each research question one by one 2.Present & interpret results 3.Link results to the literature review 4.Hint at what the results mean in terms of concluding recommendations and suggestions for future policy

Answer each Question The purpose of the research is to answer the research questions! Present each question and then present the results of your analysis that provide the answer to each individual research question. Present answers in the way the reader expects to see them. For example: An increase in daily time spent watching TV was strongly associated with an increase in cholesterol concentration in males aged 45 to 65 years, r s (98) =.729, p <.001.

Present and Interpret Results Present tables and charts nicely in APA format. Provide an interpretation of charts in the paragraph before they are presented in your research report. Provide an interpretation of tables in the paragraph before they are presented in your research report. Do not assume that results are self-explanatory, and at the same time try not to simply repeat what is in your charts and tables. Help the reader to understand the significance of your results in terms of the research questions.

Link Results to the Literature Review Results should be compared and contrasted with the literature review information. Answer these questions about your results: Are your results supported/predicted by your literature review? Do your results contradict what you found in the literature? Is it the case that you found nothing in the literature to explain the results that you have generated?

Hint at Conclusion Recommendations Express your results in terms of what they mean for the outcomes of your study. Be conservative – try not to make claims in the discussion that are not strongly supported by results and only report findings that strongly supported by your results. Final note about the results and discussion section Remember that your credibility as a researcher is going to be called into question if you have used the wrong statistical techniques to analyse your data – make sure the right tests are selected and that all assumptions for using a test or technique have been met.

END OF RESULTS AND DISCUSSION SECTION GUIDELINES Critical analysis and presentation of results
