Michelangelo 1475-1564 He sculpted David Gulio and Moses. The pope wanted Michelangelo to paint to ceiling in the Sistine Chaple. Michelangelo gets his inspiration at the coorey. David

Vincent Van Gogh 1853-1890 He painted over 700 paintings and sold only one throughout his whole life. He was fired from his job because he told people not to buy certain paintings. Starry Starry Night

Claude Monet 1840-1926 Many of his paintings had to do with water. Capture effects of light. He used Impressionism. Water Lilies

Leonardo da Vinci 1453-1519 He used deep shadows to make three dimensional. He didn’t outline objects. Used aerial perspective. Mona Lisa

Rembrandt 1606-1669 He painted over 100 self-portraits. He got married in 1634. The only bright color that he used was red. Sea of Galilee

Las Meninas The little girl in the dress was only five years old. Most of the people around her were the little girls servants. Artist: Diego Velazquez

The Dance Class He painted the picture in a “Z” pattern. Many of the objects and people go off the canvas so you know that there’s more to the room, not just what he painted. Artist: Edgar Degas

The Third of May 1808 The men standing in a line pointing the guns, shot everyone that they found even if you weren’t involved in anything. Francisco painted this piece because he wanted us to remember the French as the “Bad French”. Artist: Francisco Goya

The Great Wave of Kanagawa This piece was painted on a very small piece of wood, he did this so it was easier for him to smuggle his art out of the country. There’s a total of four boats in this painting. Artist: Katsushika Hokusai

Narcissus The man in this painting died by starving himself to death. He died because he had a cast spelled on him that “the next person he see’s, he will fall in love with” and the next person he saw was himself. He saw himself in a pond and stayed there looking at his reflection until he died. Artist: Michelangelo Caravaggio
