4 Panopticon What is it? How does it relate to The Giver?

5 Panopticon Whether it is true or not, a member of a group believes that he/she is constantly under surveillance and behaves accordingly.

6 Panopticon In The Giver, the society had cameras all over. They were not constantly monitored, however, the members were being video-taped. If something went wrong, the government could always go back and look at the tapes.

7 Omniscient In writing, called “third-person” view. What is a Omniscient God? Omniscient means “all knowing-all seeing.”

8 Omniscient God In the past, society was ruled by fear of God. Have we replaced an “Omniscient God” with an “Omniscient Government? The fear of being punished by the government replaces our desire to “do the right thing” because the government will take care of it.

9 Privacy Rights Constitutionally all citizens are protected. “A man’s home is his castle.” Patents, Copyrights, Private Property Is it worth the loss of some privacy if it improves the safety of all members of society?
