Please mention Story when ordering. On Reading with the Eagles morning, cheerleaders will be selling spirit ribbons before school. Arrival at school: Please drop off students at the side door each morning. Also, the only crosswalks at Story are in the front of the building and by the gym. Please remember that students need healthy snacks. Clear water is the only drink allowed in the classroom. ACO Donations for September are favorite kids’ healthy foods.

Reading For the next few weeks, we will continuing to implement the Daily 5 routines. The Daily 5 activities include Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing. After our reading workshop is in place, we will be working on comprehension skills that will help students to better understand what they are reading. Please have your child read at home EVERY night. Writing In writing, we are working on writing about a small moment. We will take our writing piece through the writing process to publish. We will be learning how to write complete meaningful sentences for our writing. Social Studies We will be focusing on identifying and demonstrating traits of good citizenship. We will be learning about rules and our roles as citizens. Our focus will shift to our government. We will also be participating in Celebrate Freedom Week during the week of Sept. 17. During this week, we will be learning about our Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence. Science Students will be learning safety rules for science as well as tools that scientists use. Next, we will be observing weather patterns and learning the water cycle. This unit will be followed by observing objects in the sky including the moon phases. Word Work We will be focusing on short vowels, final /k/ rule, magic e rule, hard and soft c, and hard and soft g. Please look on our webpage for rules and activities. Math Shapes are our focus for the next few weeks. We will continue to work with composing and decomposing 2D shapes this week. After that we will move onto 3D shapes. In the later weeks, we will be learning place value to 120, comparing and ordering numbers to 120, and working with number patterns. It is never too early to start working on addition facts with your child. We will be assessing students on their addition facts in the future.
