BenefitsThe modern miracle of cataract removal and insertion of an IOL (intraocular lens) gives hope, meaning to life and self sufficiency that is deeply appreciated.

6 FAQ´s:About cataracts What is it? A cataract is a clouding of all or part of the normally clear lens within your eye which results in blurred or distorted vision. What is the cause? No one knows exactly the cause but it is known that a chemical change occurs within the eye to cause the lens to become cloudy; this may be use to advancing age. What do the person experiment? Blurred or hazy vision, the appearance of spots in front of the eyes, increased sensitivity to glare or the feeling of having a film over the eyes.

7 FAQ´s:About the project What is the cost of each surgery? $200 USD that includes the lens, hospital, surgery materials. Who is going to do it? A group of volunteer Ophthalmologist headed by our Avoidable Blindness Director, Jose Luis Tovilla who is also an ophthalmologist. Where is going to be done? 8 FAQ´s:About the hospital Hospital Conde de Valenciana Founded in 1975 this is a unique center for avoidable blindness. They perform more than 8,000 surgeries procedures and almost 200,000 patients in external consultant per year. Thanks to private donations, this hospital has “state of the art” infrastructure and 50 ophthalmologists to attend 500 people per day. They attend mainly low income patients and charge symbolic prices.
