+ The Right Way To Handle Absences From Work Pre-test 1) What is the first thing you should do when you know that you are going to be absent from work? + Tell your supervisor you need time off as soon as you know And you should be making the call. No one else should make the call, which includes: Mother, Father, Friend, Sister, Brother, Wife, Husband or…

+ Giving Advance Notice Need 1 hour off from work, give a day notice. Need a whole day off from work, ask one week in advance. Need a week off from work, ask at least 1 month in advance.

+ Check What Excuses Are Acceptable or Legal Absences Contagious illness Death in immediate family Approved vacation Weather (Bad) Maternity leave

+ Un-acceptable Excuses for Absence Had too much to drink last night Beach day Tired—need a day off Baseball playoffs Friend asked you to take the day off Uncle’s second cousin’s friend was in an auto accident

+ Time off requests that are considered a privilege or a favor Vacations Last minute requests for day off Temporary change of regular schedule Calling to be late for personal reason
