1. DANGERS OF SUMMERTIME ALERT! WARNING! DANGER! Be alert for the dangers during the summer season.

2. Summertime School is out. Vacations are being planned. Weekend trips – camping – visit relatives Church activities include: – Vacation Bible School – Regular worship times – Christian Youth Camp – Summer Youth Series (2 of them)

3. Summertime There are some dangers to this season of the year. Hebrews 11:25 – “Pleasures of sin for a season” Acts 24:25 – “A more convenient season” 2 Timothy 2:2 – “Preach in season, out of season” Proverbs 15:23 – “A word spoken in due season”

4. DANGER – Attendance slump Track church attendance – “2-humped camel” – Higher in spring and fall – Lower in summer and winter Summer – vacations, reunions, weekend trips There will be more subs in Bible class There will be fewer students I am not trying to stop weekend trips – just remember – Don’t take a vacation from God!

5. DANGER – Contribution slump We tend to spend more money during the summer When we are away – remember the church here still has expenses to meet Missionaries still need support, light bill still must be paid, (and the preacher needs a pay check) 1 Corinthians 16:2 teaches weekly (regular) giving

6. DANGER – Immodest Apparel I am NOT writing rules 1 Timothy 2:9-10 9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

7. DANGER – Immodest Apparel Modest includes three concepts: – Decent – Appropriate – Not showy, flashy – for show We must be adorned with “good works” The worldly trends and showing up in the house of God What does your apparel say about your life, faith, moral values?

8. DANGER – Church Programs of Word During the summer – many programs of work become “dead in the water” Visitation stops, invitations halt, bringing visitors grinds to a halt, other work is on hold Other than VBS – most programs just go into hibernation until September.

9. DANGER – Temptations Increase DURING THE SUMMER THERE IS MORE: DURING THE SUMMER THERE IS LESS: Opportunitiy to be temptedClothes HeatResistance Free timeTo occupy our minds and time More teen pregnancies More teens have babies in March – May Conceived in June - August Ability to say “No”

10. DANGER – Family Life During the summer there are many more activities – soccer, baseball, camp, trips, vacation, etc. For many families there are too many separate activities. There is less time spent together as a family. Many homes just become “filling stations” HOME becomes just a HOUSE.

11. Conclusion: I am NOT trying to restrict your summer plans I am NOT saying that vacations are wrong I AM saying: – We must be aware of the dangers of this season – We must take extra care to keep the church going – We must make sure that we do not neglect God – We must plan to keep the family unit intact – We must keep God in our plans
