Marine Core Service MyOcean WP18 & User Meeting/ 29-30 September Athens Users Improvement of capabilities (Chapt. 4.2) Service Providers n Improvement of data assimilation systems and services, to provide coastal operational services from regional up to global scale. –Implementation of SST and Sea-ice concentration products to improve the medium range forecast of ocean waves and weather n Obtain scientific knowledge and build up technological Innovations (exploration and observation) for ocean circulation forecasting
10
Marine Core Service MyOcean WP18 & User Meeting/ 29-30 September Athens Users policy driving needs (Chapt.5.1) Global/EU n Kyoto Protocol, n United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) n World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional n Baltic: HELCOM Convention n Atlantic/North Sea: OSPAR Convention n Mediterranean: Barcelona Convention n Black Sea:Black Sea Environmental Programme (BSEP)
11
Marine Core Service MyOcean WP18 & User Meeting/ 29-30 September Athens Users tasks description and users short term needs (Chapt.5.2) Policy Sector or Area of benefit: Climate PolicyActivityTasks Climate changeKyoto ProtocolEstimation of influence on other environmental issues Impact assessment of Climate change to environmental goals set by HELCOM and its member states. Climate analysisAtmospheric and Ocean re-analysis Historical reconstructions of SST and sea- ice with consistent quality are required to improve the quality of atmospheric reanalysis. Seasonal ForecastRegional Convention Ecosystem modelling Coastal activity Ecosystem modelling to forecast eutrophication or harmful algae blooms. Seasonal ForecastGlobalImprovement of Medium-range weather forecasting High temporal and horizontal resolution/good quality SST and ocean currents have the potential to improve the skill of the medium range weather and wave forecasts.
12
Marine Core Service MyOcean WP18 & User Meeting/ 29-30 September Athens Evolution and Future of User needs (Chapt. 5.3) General/EEA needs: n Development of downstream services and implementation of new services and products n Implementation of general agreements and policies for service and product distribution n Evolution of modelling systems Intergovernmental Bodies n Implementation and improvement of state-of-the-art techniques for service delivery, like web applications Service Provider n New thematic fields, like ice extension/thickness, ocean currents and mean dynamic topography
13
Marine Core Service MyOcean WP18 & User Meeting/ 29-30 September Athens Requirements overview (Chapt. 6.1) General n Availability of MyOcean, MCS products is expected to improve state-of-art and operationality of services at all time scales
