AVI SYSTEMS IN THE YEAR 2020 Airport Ground Transportation Association Accent on the Positive – Part II September 11, 2007 Brad Whittle Forrest Swonsen
2
What is AVI? Looking back to look forward – technology in our lives Technology l Vehicle identification l Management systems l Infrastructure Agenda
3
What is AVI Today? Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) uses wireless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) communication technology to identify, monitor, track, and collect data on vehicle movements so you can effectively manage Customer parking and a variety of airside and landside vehicle - related activities.

Ground Transportation in 2020?
5
Looking Back to Look Forward Sometimes to see where we are going, it’s helpful to remember where we have been 2020 is 13 years away, so let’s think about about 1994 for a moment: 1 st term of the Clinton Administration “Schindler’s List” was the best picture Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” wins best song It was all about OJ in the news What technology were you using?
9
What technology is in your life now?
10
Let’s fast Forward to 2020
11
What’s Your Airport Going To Be Like in 2020? Busier l More planes, people and vehicles l More intermodal/mass transit More secure More interconnected l Infrastructure and systems Smarter l People and systems Greener But, probably not much larger
12
Vehicle Identification Vehicles will be “smarter” with more embedded technology l Vehicle telematics l Integrated GPS/WiFi and SatCom Electronic VIN data l Built-in RFID, open standard l “Virtual” vehicle registration License plate imaging/capture/OCR You may not have to put a transponder on every vehicle to identify it This should yield lower costs on the vehicle side
13
Management Systems and Software The information won’t change nearly as much as how it’s managed and distributed Commercial vehicle operations l Integrated vehicle ID and positioning data l Interfaced to PARCS, ACAMS and other systems Taxi dispatch/management l Real-time, on demand, customer driven dispatch l Managing and notifying your drivers via personal communications (cells, iPhones, PDAs) Overall, a much more integrated airport systems environment
14
Management Systems and Software Revenue collection/billing l Assume a near “cashless” environment l Near real time billing and payment via debit, ACH and credit using multiple mobile tools l Pay as you go should grow in use Customer experience l Push information to them before they get to curbside l GT mode options, providers, schedules, rates, etc. l Customers will continue to demand more and better choices and information….faster and more easily
15
Infrastructure Re-think the IT environment l ASP modeling for servers and hosting l Browser and web-based applications l Virtual officing Mobile, mobile and more mobile l “On the go” access to data and systems l Data push out to the curbs and beyond l Ease of access and portability, via mobile devices Communications l More and more wireless and multimodal
16
Summary Like all technology we use, AVI will continue to evolve. WHAT you’ll be doing won’t change as much as HOW you’ll do it Look for cheaper, more transparent vehicle identification tools Information will be mobile, and so will it’s users
