Outcomes (RIS 1-2, R&D projects in South Moravia Region - SMR) Network of support centres for innovative business – South Moravia Innovation Centre (SMIC) is a dedicated agency for supporting innovative business in South Moravia Region and works with the organisations that established it.

Outcomes (RIS 1-2, R&D projects in SMR) Network of technology incubators – gradually expanded to to current area of c. 6000 m 2, 40 companies set up, 12 with successful exists, 300 jobs, 22 patents Biomedical technologies incubator (MU – INBIT) BUT I incubatorBUT II incubator

Outcomes (RIS 1-2, R&D projects in SMR) Support for human resources – South Moravia Centre for International Mobility (JCMM): Support for gifted secondary school students in SMR (c. 150 supported annually, long-term programmes) Support grants, support for scientific activity and study at secondary schools in the USA Support for bringing foreign students and young scientists into the region Support for beginning scientists in SMR – PhD students (grants from Brno city) Support to bring renowned scientists into the region (SoMoPro programme – c. CZK 90 mn.)

RIS 3: Technology transfer TT Point project – Coordinated activities and joint action plan between TT centres at MU, BUT, MUAF and UVPS, with SMIC playing a central role (projects in the Education for Competitiveness Operation Programme) Innovation vouchers – around CZK 5 mn. annually (City of Brno), c. 40 supported projects Fund for testing technologies – project proposal, SMIC with the founders, c. CZK 15 mn. p.a.

RIS 3: Consultancy and services Extending incubator network – new ICT incubator and creative industries incubator in Brno, developing the network in smaller towns in South Moravia Region Extending advice support Creating sources for seed funding Financial forum and micro-credit fund Patents and licences fund Targeted support for clusters

RIS 3: Human resources Science centre (interactive science and technology museum) – popularising science with the accent on natural sciences and technology, c. 8000 m 2, under OP priority 3: R&D for innovation Direct support for gifted young people – further development of present activities Direct support for attracting foreign specialists – SoMoPro project and similar activities

Large infrastructure for R&D – CEITEC project Central European Institute of Technology integrates biomedical and materials sciences + strong IT background (R&D for Innovations Operational Programme 2010-2015, c. CZK 8 bn.) molecular and cell biology (genetics, proteomics, biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics) biomedicine disciplines (molecular oncology, microbiology, stem cells, neurosciences) materials sciences (ceramic, polymer and metallic materials and composites, nanomaterials) advance technologies (nano- and microtechnologies, light beam manipulation, imaging technology, biological signals processing and modelling, wireless communication and hypermedia services)
