1. A Guide to the 1920’s
9.3.1 Analyse the impact of changing technology and socioeconomic conditions on differing prosperities and lifestyles in Canada in the 1920s and 1930s
• identify the factors leading to prosperity in the 1920s
• examine the impact of new technology on lifestyle in the 1920s

2. Post World War I
Canada’s wartime economy had improved living conditions as many goods (weapons ammunition and food) were sold in Europe to support the war. This ended when the war ended as the demand from Europe fell.
Many soldiers returned home expecting employment but couldn’t find jobs because of the economic slump.

3. Canadians became suspicious of new immigrants taking jobs from existing Canadians
British Colombia, Ontario and Quebec became rich because the raw materials they possessed were still in high demand. (Forestry and mining)
The Prairies and the Maritimes suffered economic hardship as they could not compete with manufacturing in other provinces. Farmers and Fishers could not sell their goods.

4. Change in Fortune
By mid 1920’s Canada’s economy began to improve there was more of a demand for exports of raw materials.
American investment and companies caused economic growth in Canada.
Some Canadians became rich during this boom period.

5. Changing Technologies
World War I brought about advances in technology.
Many new inventions.
Introduction of the assembly line.
Use of gas and electrical powered machinery.

6. A Handbook to the Roaring 20’s
Create a handbook for a visitor to Canada in the 1920’s:
Explain what society is like after World War 1.
Include examples the consumer products of “The Haves” and explain the installment plan that allowed people to become consumers of the new technologies and inventions.
Show examples of leisure, sports and entertainment activities and include some famous people of the day.
Use the “Stack of Decades” to find what was “in style” or new or important to society in the 1920’s.
Describe “The Have Nots.” Who are they? Where do they live in Canada? What opportunities do they miss out on?

7. Handbook Has pictures and information.
Watch the “voice” that you write in. It’s a handbook for someone who wants to fit in in the 1920’s.
Put it in your own words!!!
Make a bibilography that includes the URL and the date it was accessed.
Every image needs to have the url below it.
Has a title page and table of contents!!

8. The Handbook Use Publisher. Choose appropriate templates.
Use the layout to add photos and text.
This is not a group project!
Handbook should be at least 6 pages including a title page.
