4 Innovations through Partnerships Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers (I/UCRC) Center for Sensors and Actuators U. C.- Berkeley / Dust Networks - Wireless sensors called “Smart Dust” that can track troop movement or traffic density for example. Hayward, Calif., – September 14, 2006 – Dust Networks, (www.dustnetworks.com), one of the recipients of The Wall Street Journal's 2006 Global Technology Innovation Awards.www.dustnetworks.com Chris Pister, Student-Faculty-Founder

5 Innovations through Partnerships Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison with Industry (GOALI) Penn State University / Neenah, Wheland, & Navistar Foundries - an advanced oxidation* process for foundries that enhances “green sand” performance in the casting process and diminishes air emissions. *Sonoperoxone TM combines O 3, H 2 O 2 and high-powered acoustics to generate advanced oxidants in the water used by a foundry

6 Innovations through Partnerships Partnerships for Innovation (PFI) Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) / Concrete Industry Management –Expand to Arizona State University, California State University–Chico, and New Jersey Institute of Technology. Develop on-line courses, establish a “state-of-the art” laboratory, leverage NSF funding with concrete industry patrons* to produce qualified graduates for the very large construction industry. *Concrete Industry leaders are pledging $1M annually for the next 4-5 years for each of the partner universities.

7 Innovations through Partnerships Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) eSpin Technologies – Partnered with Tennessee to move polymeric nanofiber research from a laboratory scale to a manufacturing facility. Filtration potential cuts across automotive, aerospace, healthcare and other industrial customers.
