Chapter 4 Test By: T and R and T

Unit 4 lesson 1 objectives! Describe the relationship between work and energy! Relate Kinetic Energy to mass and speed! Analyze how Potential Energy is related to an object’s position! Give examples of major forms of energy and explain how each is produced!

Answers part #1 #1- When work is done on an object energy is transferred to that object! #2- The Kinetic Energy depends on any moving object! #3- The energy is stored as a result of height and shape (position)! EnergyExampleHow it’s produced Kinetic EnergyRain fallingBy the energy of motion. Potential EnergyRain after it hits the ground Energy that is stored in result of position. Gravitational Potential Energy A diver standing motionless on the end of a diving board. It depends on the objects height, mass, and acceleration. Elastic Potential EnergyStretched rubber band An object being stretched or compressed Mechanical EnergyA wind up toy You twist the wind up toy which turns the gears that makes the toy move #4

EnergyExample How it’s Produced Thermal EnergyThermal UnderwearThe atoms move faster Chemical Energy Toasting a marshmallow over a fire Energy is released and heats the marshmallow Electrical EnergyLightening Energy is associated with electric charges Electromagnetic EnergySatellite in spaceWaves Nuclear EnergyNuclear bomb The atoms are surrounded by nuclear and when they get stuck it explodes

Section 4-2 objectives 1. Describe conversions of energy from one form to another. 2. State and apply the law of conservation of energy. 3. Analyze how energy is conserved in conversions between KE and PE. 4. Describe the relationship between energy and mass.

Answers 1. The conversion is like cause and effect. Example a bird with a ouster it’s increasing the oysters potential energy. Bird drops oyster and the potential energy to kinetic energy. Then the oyster falls and hits the rock and breaks. Kinetic Energy is converted to work and thermal energy. 2. States that energy can’t be created or destroyed. 3. The energy has to be present at the beginning of a process is the same as the amount of energy at the end. 4. There is not a relationship.

Chapter 4 lesson 3 Objectives Classify energy resources as renewable or non renewable! Evaluate benefits and drawbacks of different energy sources! Describe ways to conserve energy!

EnergyRenewableNon- Renewable Fossil Fuels * Hydroelectric Energy * Solar Energy * Geothermal Energy * Biomass Energy * Hydrogen Fuel Cell * Wind Energy * Nuclear Energy * Renewable and Non- Renewable Energy #1

EnergyBenefitsDraw Backs Fossil Fuels Inexpensive and easy to get It pollutes Solar Energy No pollution and low cost Must have sun Hydroelectric Energy No pollution and low cost Environmental impact disrupts wild life Geothermal EnergyNo pollutionNot very accessible Biomass Energy Cheap and renewable Pollution Hydrogen fuel cellNo pollutionNot as efficient Wind Energy No pollution, low cost, and renewable Needs wind and space #2

Ways to conserve energy! Turn off lights when not using! Unplug everything you’re not using! Ride your bike instead of your car! Use florescent lights! Use solar powered cars!
