The Beginning of the new Approach to Innovation Policy
In 1998/99 the RITTS study of the TSB laid the foundation for an active innovation policy. It became clear, that the traditional approach, that focused on widespread funding for a variety of sectors did not show any potential to respond to the challenges Berlin was facing. After consulting with many stakeholders in research and industry, it was decided, that network management structures were to be implemented. The following 8 fields of innovation were identified: 1. Biotechnology 2. Information- and Communications Technology 3. Transport technology 4. Medical technology 5. Microelectronics and Microsystems Technology 6. Production technology 7. Food production 8. Construction industry
