World Interactions Activities Students will create geographical maps of a different country and identify lakes, rivers, etc. Students will list foreign companies doing business in Ohio Students will find Ohio companies conducting business in other countries and create a chart showing goods and services produced in other nations, but purchased in Ohio.

Decision Making & Resources Activities Students will use the Women in Decision- Making website to research a famous woman in European politics. Students will “go shopping” in various catalogs with a set amount of money to spend. They must decide what to buy taking into account all costs. Students will use a decision-making grid with established criteria to compare choices in a decision.

Democratic Processes Activities Students will hold a mock election in class. Students will role play as the president for a day, making decisions about different events that a president might actually experience (meetings with Cabinet members, speeches to the public,) Students will pose their own solutions for overcoming the National Debt

Citizenship Rights Activities Students will develop a plan for helping to fight slavery. Students will explore the nature of rules and then work in small groups to create their own charter for a club. Students will pinpoint causes and propose solutions to increase vote participation

Citizenship Rights Activities (Cont’d) Students will identify problems in 19th century New York City, compare them to problems in their own area, and brainstorm possible solutions Students will explore issues in their own community and write PSA’s for local media distribution.

CONCLUSION All of the activities and websites included in this presentation can (and should) be used in an elementary school classroom within the Social Studies curriculum. We feel as though each of these activities will enhance the students’ knowledge of world studies.
