Nutrition & Food Security Programme Obesity n In Europe the prevalence of obesity reaches more than 30% in some adults and shows escalating rates in children, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, certain cancers and diabetes. n Obesity is estimated to cost some health services 7% of their total health care budget. n Around one third of cardiovascular disease cases, the leading cause of death, is linked to unbalanced nutrition, and up to 30-40% of certain cancers.
