BACKGROUND Driver’s Education and Health have been graduation requirements for many years Since 2009, the district has supported additional options for students: - New AP courses - Alternative courses for meeting high school graduation requirements In support of options/alternatives for students, the Board of Education has removed the graduation requirement of Driver’s Education and Health courses for 2013-14 and 2014-15 ninth grade students 2

The concept of amending Board Policy to remove Driver’s Education and Health as a graduation requirement was presented and discussed with the following groups: Administrators Counselors Registrars 7-12 Best Practice Committee Curriculum Council All groups were in support of removing Driver’s Education and Health as a graduation requirement. 4

Staff recommends the Board of Education remove Driver’s Education and Health courses as a graduation requirement for students effective July 1, 2015. Recommendation 5

Next Steps District will continue to offer Driver’s Education and Health Expand current Driver’s Education and Health courses from a quarter to a semester course 6
